Looking For A Claw-Foot Tub?

That's no longer a hard-to-find specialty item. American Standard offers one as part of its Reminiscence collections, and is available in 15 different colors, a choice of foot styles and finishes, with interiors in either black or white. Want a truly elegant and romantic look? Try matching handpainted bathroom collections like English Trellis or the French-inspired Alouétte from Kohler's Artist editions.

For a more modern, sleek style you could pair a stainless steel sink with matching faucets in a glass countertop. Or use unique decorator faucets with exotic handle shapes in a variety of jewel-toned colors, gold toned accents and unexpected finish combinations. All of these can create highly personalized, yet functional artistic statements for one of the most important rooms in the house.

For true relaxation from modern day stresses, however, nothing beats soaking in a whirl pool tub. Multi-speed pumps, mood lighting, and in-line heaters to maintain that perfect water temperature are just a few of the technological advances that add to your enjoyment. A whirlpool tub can also be found in more traditional 5-by-8 bathrooms, thanks to the advent of regular tub-sized models. In more spacious bathrooms, whirlpool tubs for two are a hot item.

Today's modern bathroom often includes a shower that is separate from the bathtub or whirlpool. And this shower is not like those of old: Multi-spray body systems with hand-held showers and overhead sprays are increasingly popular. These shower systems often coordinate with or complement faucets and fixtures found elsewhere in the bathroom.

Shower and tub surrounds made of solid-surface materials such a Dupont's CORIAN®, Swanstone, and Formica brand's Surell add to the modern bathroom by making clean-up a snap while maintaining an elegant look. Inserts made from these same materials help to keep the shower area clutter-free while matching or contrasting solid-surface benches create a seamless place for you to relax while bathing or shaving.

Solid-surface products are not the only materials used for tub and shower surrounds. Tile is still the pre-eminent choice for adding that feeling of luxury, drama and color to the modern bathroom. Although tile requires more maintenance than solid-surface materials, the sheer scope of color, design and texture makes it a product worth having. Rectangular tiles with decorative borders are very popular, as are low sheen finishes. Earthy elements such as tumbled marble and rustic-looking ceramic tiles create a warm, inviting environment. Tiles are also very popular flooring material with larger tiles — 12-inch-by-12-inch or bigger — becoming the standard regardless of room size.

Although not often thought of in relation to the bathroom, cabinetry has an important function in today's modern bathroom. While pedestal sinks still reign supreme in powder rooms and small bathrooms, the larger bathroom can accommodate vanities and storage areas specifically designed for each client's unique needs.

Linen Closets Are Replacing Built-In Closets

because they offer more storage area while taking up less space. They also make it easier to use shallow depth units that allow you to more easily access your stored items. Additional drawer space has also been increasingly popular. No longer are items cluttering the area under the sink, since drawers allow for better separation of products. The style of cabinets can either help create a unifying theme within the house or create a different feeling more in keeping with the private self — unlike the more public rooms of the house.

It is plain to see that bathrooms can be whatever you want or need them to be. Whether reminiscent of the past or looking forward to the future, the designers at BECO Inc. can make sure that your bathroom will be comfortable, convenient and reflect your style. Together we can create your own personal oasis — your dream bathroom by BECO Inc.

Updating your home for today's lifestyles may include enlarging the bathroom. This may be less expensive than it sounds. Many of BECO Inc.'s customers request that the bathroom walls be "bumped out" into an adjoining closet, bedroom or porch. Angled walls, tubs, showers and/or closets can add to the escapism the bathroom provides. Modern bathrooms are also filled with light. Enlarging windows or adding skylights are two ways you can bring more calming, natural light into your most private of rooms.

Larger, multiple bathrooms are now the norm and, increasingly, the bathroom reflects the unique style of the owners of the house. Period-looking bathrooms can be achieved by using fixtures created to go together, like American Standard's Antiquity ensemble or Kohler's Portrait suite, which includes a wall-
